Pastor Matt hails from Orange City, Iowa, and graduated from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, a PC(USA)-related college. He worked in fundraising and special-event planning at BVU for a few years before answering God’s call to ordained ministry. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Seminary in 1999 and then served as the associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska.
“From my earliest days of sitting with my parents and brother in worship in Orange City, Iowa, I have known that God loves me. And I have realized since then that, more than I have chosen to follow Christ, God has chosen me out of love and abundant grace.” ~Matt Nieman
Matt started his ministerial career in 2002, as the pastor and head of staff at First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Nebraska, where he served for 12 years. Outside the church, Matt enjoys spending time with his sons, Jacob and Joey. He’s a big Green Bay Packers, Iowa State Cyclones, and Atlanta Braves fan. He reluctantly stays active by running and playing a little bit of golf, but not very well..
“As part of a church family, I came to know the value of living one’s faith together in the community. I was mentored in faith by caring teachers, sponsors, church staff and my parents. I came to know the value of serving with others to proclaim Christ’s love to the world.” ~Matt Nieman
As a pastor, Matt’s chief ambition is to use his gifts of listening and relating so that others may come to know their supreme value in God’s eyes and the potential they have for serving Jesus Christ.
